A very commonly used chemical to smoothen the wrinkles is botox. Any part of the skin which is being affected is injected with this chemical. This chemical can also be useful in reducing the degeneration of our dental health and hence has become a part of cosmetic dentistry too.
The purified form of the toxin botulimum forms the source for botox. Wrinkles are caused by contraction of muscles and when the skin is injected with this chemical, it stops the impulses carried by the nerves causing muscle contraction. The drawback is that this effect does not last for long and you may have to repeat the treatment after a six month period.
There have been many reactions for using botox for reducing the degeneration of dental health. The chemical is allowed for certain reasons and is also avoided at times for some reasons. The big question that lingers in everyone’s mind is whether this cosmetic chemical should be administered by the dentists despite the same being a non-dental formulae or whether the dentists should prioritize the dental health.
Both the sides have their own pros and cons. People who support the usage of botox in dentistry by the dentists are of the opinion that the patients should have a single place to go for all their facial health related issues. This train of thought is based on the feeling that health is not just about not having any illness but it is also about having a good feeling.
Most of the common practitioners of dentistry are more than willing to use botox along with other dental services. They want to expand their practice by including more services apart from the regular dental related ones. The specialists of dentistry however think this is a job for cosmetic surgeons or beautifying experts.
Most of the people who do not want this procedure to be included in the dentistry are the experts who want to keep their professionalism intact. These jobs are not considered a part of their profession. Moreover, the botox is currently dominated by the companies manufacturing the chemical. This raises doubts on the impartiality on the information source.
If we have more doctors prescribing us with botox, it can only be beneficial to us. One has to be careful about letting the dentists using the chemical as it can result in abuse. This will also increase chances of fake doctors in the field of botox.
